THE HISTORY OF CHATEAU PARADIS
The first vineyards planted on the lands of Château Paradis date back to 600 BC, when the Phocaeans settled in Marseille and introduced this remarkable plant to the region. Later, in 21 BC, the Romans built the “Villa Regina” along with a Gallo-Roman agricultural estate equipped with a grape press.
In 1980, Château Paradis as we know it today was born. The estate belonged to Jacques Héon, a Franco-German wine enthusiast with a particular passion for white wines. He planted several hectares of Sauvignon Blanc and Grenache Blanc vines. In 2003, he sold the vineyard to new owners, Philippe and Juliette Deschamps. They restored the original bastide, formerly an old farmhouse, and later built a winery and aging cellar, allowing the estate to move from cooperative status to independent wine producer. Château Paradis then opened a new chapter in its history.
Since 2011, the estate has been owned by the Thiéblin family. Deeply attached to their Provençal roots, Xavier and Odile Thiéblin are committed to enhancing the estate and crafting terroir-driven wines with true personality. In 2012, they restructured the vineyard and acquired an additional fifty hectares of AOP vines originally belonging to Château de Fonscolombe.

Legend has it that a mysterious young woman would, at dawn on every sunny day, follow the Path of the Monk toward Montagne Sainte-Victoire. Her climb would lead her to the Priory, where she met monks on pilgrimage who shared with her their brewing secrets and knowledge.
Using this wisdom, the young woman created a drink so beloved by the people of Aix-en-Provence that it became the centerpiece of great celebrations.
Highly coveted, the recipe was eventually hidden and lost through the ages. The young woman became a legend known as “La Petite Aixoise.”
It is even said that she inspired the great painter Paul Cézanne in his creations… and that she may still be hidden within his paintings.

With a simple yet meaningful slogan — “Simple, good, authentic!” — Fromagerie Bédarrides invites you to enjoy a gourmet experience that will definitely make you want to come back for more.
And to complete the atmosphere, one rallying cry says it all : Say cheese!
The cheeses from Fromagerie Bédarrides are renowned for their quality, freshness, and rich flavors. While most of the cheeses come from France, the selection also includes specialties from Switzerland, Italy, England, Spain, Belgium, and the Netherlands.
Driven by a love for tradition and high-quality ingredients, and convinced that “junk food” is not inevitable, the founders of Fromagerie Bédarrides chose to open their shop in Aix-en-Provence.
The cheese shop, named after the street where it is located — Rue Bédarrides — has become a true landmark for lovers of fine products.
One small detail still sparks debate: should “Bédarrides” be written with an “S” at the end? A question worth asking… but one that certainly does not stop the cheese shop from being a source of pride for the neighborhood.
